Dr. Mays

Both Elsik and Hastings had their spring games last week. As we all endured the heat, it was great to see all of the families and community there to support our students. I was very happy to see college recruiters walking the sidelines and in the bleachers for the spring game. This is very exciting, and I look forward to our upcoming football season and what our students will accomplish. Our students and coaches are working hard to engage our students and families, and it was reflected by last week’s spring game crowd and participation!

This summer, we have worked to engage our community with our Alief Athletic League and our Summer Fest for students. These engaging activities provide an opportunity for our community and students to stay engaged and avoid summer slide. We want to maintain and build on student growth, even during our summer months. Thank you to all of our teachers who are stepping up and sharing their talents and gifts with our students this summer.

As we close out this year, we are focused on having fun and being safe. Be sure to monitor all entries and exits to make sure all doors are closed and locking properly.

We need educators who believe in the magic that can happen in the classroom to help us meet student needs. I encourage everyone to share the opportunity to join the Alief family on your socials. We are always looking for talented teachers to serve the needs of our community and students.

From a bilingual education to a National Honor Society, Alief ISD students are given the chance to succeed as soon as they walk through our school doors on their first day. That support continues until they walk the stage at graduation.

“Let’s Make It Clear” Backpack Policy

In an effort to improve the safety measures currently in place, beginning with the 2025-2026 school year and beyond, Alief ISD will require all intermediate, middle, and high school students to use clear backpacks.

Students participating in an extracurricular activity are permitted to carry non-transparent bags to store items pertaining to their particular activity (i.e., band, athletics, etc.).

All extracurricular activity bags must be stored in designated areas upon entry into the school and are subject to search.

Additionally, the maximum size for non-transparent bags that students in intermediate, middle, and high school will be permitted to carry during the school day, such as lunch kits, pencil bags, and purses, will be “6 x 9”.

Elementary school students will be allowed to continue using traditional backpacks.
