WELCOME BACK, AISD!

Happy New Year!! I hope you had a great winter break and are now settled in to your back to school routine. I’m excited to be here and I am eager to begin working with all of you to continue providing the best education possible for our students.

I understand that change can be a challenge, and I want to reassure you that my top priority is to support and empower you as we work together to serve our students and community. I am committed to open and honest communication, and I encourage you to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have.

I look forward to getting to know each of you and to working together to create a positive and inclusive culture in Alief ISD. Thank you for your dedication to our students and for your commitment to excellence.

I hope you’ll stop by the Alief Center for Advanced Careers on Wednesday, Jan. 11 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. I look forward to meeting you!

CELEBRATIONS

Killough Middle School student, Samanta Bonilla, submitted artwork to “The Art of Healing Gala” with the Sunshine Kids Foundation. The foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to children with cancer. Samanta’s artwork sold for $7,000! Congratulations! #AliefProud

Congratulations to Michelle Palacios Lorant for being named Alief Scholar athlete of the month! She has a 3.8 GPA and wants to study international business at the University of Houston or UT-Arlington. Goooooo Bears!! #AliefProud

We are grateful to Group 1 Automotive for sponsoring a Teacher of the Month program for Alief ISD. Teachers are placed in a randomized computer-generated drawing & receive a personalized gift basket. The winner for December was Marina Palacios-Trujillo, a teacher with Alief Chancellor Elementary School!

A special thank you to Communities in Schools for their partnership with AISD. Through them, Freewheels Houston visited Klentzman Intermediate and provided bikes for our students and also made a visit to Mata Intermediate to give students bikes!

SUPPORT STUDENT ATHLETICS

Our boys and girls basketball and soccer teams are competing in a number of games this month. Check out the athletic calendar here for more information about those games and other athletic events around the district. We want to encourage more of our students to become engaged in athletic and academic competition. I invite you to come out and support our student athletes. It’s bound to be a lot of fun!

Wishing everyone a great first week back!

Sincerely,

Dr. Anthony Mays
Superintendent
Alief ISD
