• Elsik High School student Amina Mabizari has been accepted into seven of the eight Ivy League schools. She was spotlighted by Houston Chronicle.
  • Alief ISD athletes advanced to the 6A State Track Meet. Delores Okeke (Elsik) will be competing in the Shot Put event, while Esther Oboye (Taylor) will be competing in High Jump. The Elsik girls’ team will compete in the 4 x 100 and in the 4 x 200. The Taylor boys’ team will compete in both the 4 x 100 and the 4 x 400.
  • Hastings and Kerr High School journalism students took home awards at the Interscholastic League Press Conference Spring Convention in Austin. Thirteen Kerr students and seven Hastings students were received Individual Achievement Awards in Newspaper and in Yearbook at this state-level conference.
  • Alexander Elementary raised $2,047.07 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients Program.
  • The O’Donnell Middle School Robotics Club competed in Rockets Science, a collaboration between Houston Rockets, NASA and Houston Community College. Students received the award for the “Highest Altitude” rocket launch.
  • Alief ISD graduate Martellus Bennett joined Holub Middle School students via Facetime in celebration of School Library Month. Bennett’s mother, Holub Special Education Chair Pennie Bennett, read Martellus’s book, Hey A.J, It’s Saturday, to Holub students. The book and app were reviewed by the students, who also had the opportunity to interview Martellus.
  • Hastings High School student Sarah Aranda was awarded second place in the National NASCO Sketchables Postcard Contest. NASCO is a national art supply vendor.
