Alief ISD students Amanda Ho (Elsik) and Tristan Lee (Taylor) are the Alief ISD Scholar Athletes for the month of September.
- Amanda Ho is currently ranked number two out of her graduating class. She is a member of the Elsik tennis program, where she is a four-year varsity letterman. Ho, who is the Senior Class President, is also a member of the Elsik swim team, National Honor Society, Student Council and LEO. She previously attended Rees, Outley, Budewig and O’Donnell. After high school, Amanda plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin, Columbia or Stanford University to major in Biology with the hopes of conducting research as an environmental or marine biologist.
- Tristan Lee is currently ranked in the top 10 percent of his class. A two-year letterman, Lee is a tailback and a Team Captain for the Lions. He is a member of the Taylor varsity track team, the National Honor Society and has been a member of the varsity choir for who previously attended Landis, Mahanay, Youngblood and O’Donnell, is interested in attending the University of Southern California, where he plans to study Business and Music.

Alief ISD staff will be wearing purple on Purple Out Day on Friday, September 19, to show their support for Kerr High School.
Alief ISD middle school students Gwendolyn Natividad (Albright), Vivian Uzoechi (Albright), Ajah Carter (AMS), Chukwuedo Okeibunor (Holub), Mohamed Mabizari (O’Donnell), Isaiah Osazuwa (O’Donnell), Thuan Nguyen (O’Donnell) and Erika Vasquez (Olle) were recognized at the state level for their exceptional academic ability on the SAT exam in the areas of critical reading, math and writing. Last school year, these students participated in the Duke provides them with opportunities to support their development.
Seventeen Alief ISD students from Hastings, Elsik and Taylor students to attend classes in Houston Community College’s new Workforce Building. These students are in the Alief Construction Academy and are currently enrolled in the Industrial Mathematics and LEAD dual credit courses.
Alief ISD Class of 2014 graduates Sumaiya Asif (Kerr), Duc Le (Elsik) and Brittany Macedo (AECHS) were awarded a total of $4,500 in scholarships from the Texas Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA) Scholarship Program. TCTA selected recipients who have faced hardships that make higher education unlikely without help.
