Every fall, volunteers across the city join H.P.A.R.D. staff to sow seeds that will turn into beautiful beds of wildflowers in the spring.
The Lady Bird Johnson Tribute Wildflower Planting honors the former First Lady, who promoted the use of wildflowers and native plants in public beautification projects. Her efforts have led her to be considered one of America’s first environmentalists. Now in its eighth year, the wildflower planting is a favorite volunteer project in Houston.
The Houston Parks and Recreation Department (H.P.A.R.D.) stewards and manages over 37,832 acres of parkland and greenspace for the City of Houston and develops and implements recreational programming for citizens of all abilities. For more information on the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, call (832) 395-7022 or visit www.houstonparks.org.
