David HawesManagement team and staff of the IMD are hard at work implementing the vision of the Board of Directors in the adopted Service Plan. In late 2010 the new District offices opened in the Universal Shopping Center at 11360 Bellaire setting the stage for the work to begin in the new year. As we entered into 2011 the District budget was approved with over $1.3M allocated for new street signage, landscaping and monumentation to create an identifiable look for the District’s major thoroughfares, entranceways, pedestrian crosswalks and business area.

The Public Safety Program continues to work on targeting hotspots and areas of concern with a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to law enforcement. An apartment life committee works to address issues and concerns in our multifamily housing complexes. The Bike Patrol Program is a big hit with the shopping center owners and businesses with officers patrolling the district on bicycles, able to respond more quickly to incidents in crowded areas and places where patrol vehicles cannot go.

In business and economic development we will launch a multifaceted marketing outreach campaign to property owners, business tenants and the residential community. Key elements will include : advertising in select magazines and other media to encourage shopping and dining in the District; increased participation in strategic and community partner events to promote the District brand; development of a business owners marketing forum and a complete revision of the District website to increase usability and take advantage of marketing the District businesses through all forms of social media available in today’s high tech market.
