Lisa McBride, our board attorney, shared a recent update regarding the current status of our lawsuit with TEA. You can view the update in the link below. I hope her summary helps give a greater understanding of our current challenge and advocacy for Alief ISD.

TEA Lawsuit Update

This week, I had the opportunity to visit with senior Elsik High School student, Ryan Tzul, to discuss our Agriculture program. I am so excited about our future in this area as we explore opportunities for dual credit with Tarleton State University. This is another opportunity to promote college and career readiness here in Alief ISD. Check out the video.

I recently attended the Kerr High School production, Into the Woods. Seeing so many of our students displaying their talents was a delight. From on the stage to behind the curtain with stage production, our students made us proud. The show also served as a community gathering. I could visit with my daughter’s teacher while also enjoying our students and visiting with Principal Lewis, who couldn’t help but smile and laugh the entire show as our students gave it their all. Opportunities to gather at the play or football game and celebrate our students and their talents make Alief a connected community.

High school Basketball is almost here! As teams practice and prepare to be great this season, VYPE HOU is taking a look forward at who might be one of the best Public School Girls Basketball Players this season! Fans have the opportunity to vote in the 2023-24 Preseason Public School Girls Basketball Player of the Year fan poll presented by Sun and Ski Sports. Be sure you get your votes in before the poll ends! Voting will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24th.

Celebrations

The 3rd AMP news episode for the 2023-2024 school year is here! Featuring our CTE Culinary program, the Alief Proud community event, Pet of the Week with Australian Miniature Shepherd (puppy) “Tilly,” the Elsik Homecoming Video, and weather with Elsik student Yamilet. Congratulations to our AMP team!

Five large scale art murals were permanently installed at Miller Intermediate. The murals were the result of a collaborative cross-campus project completed last spring by high school art students under the direction of Miller Intermediate administrators, Principal Seymour Stewart and assistant principal Susan Chacko, and lead high school art teacher Keri Reynolds. Each mural was hand-built and painted to promote the power of having a growth mindset through illustrated inspirational quotes. Students pictured in the photo are Ms. Reynolds’ former art students who helped lead the mural project Gabriel Martinez, Karla Gomez, and Kimberly Manzanarez (class of 2023 Elsik).
