This week, I would like to share information with you about what strategies we are using to assist student learning. Our district Central Instruction and Campus Leadership teams are focused on increasing student outcomes and improving student achievement for all students. While there is a district plan as well as campus plans, narrowing down specific student lists and their individualized needs are where we believe we can best serve students. The opportunities at the campuses target high-quality, first-line instruction and ensure rigorous instructional activities that mirror the expectations on state assessments. From a leadership perspective, that means performing classroom walkthroughs as campus and central leaders to observe plans all the way through implementation.

Additionally, campuses are fully engaged with interventions like Saturday School, after-school tutorials, morning interventions, and the utilization of Schoology and other digital resources like iReady, IXL, iStation, and other content-specific solutions. Tracking usage data monitors implementation and analyzing data trends through the reports monitors student growth. Central communication and celebrations of small wins are driving momentum and energy.

Strategic Instruction Plans have been created by Central Instructional Coordinators and can be tailored to the student needs that we have identified through classroom data in each of our campus classrooms. This spring, we continue to monitor and adjust instruction daily to ensure the time and effort being spent in the daily lessons translate to student achievement. Our team has a strong plan in place to help students be successful.

What Can Parents Do?

  • Have students engage in sustained reading at home for 30 minutes a night to build fluency
  • Utilize the digital tools such as iReady, IXL, iStation, that Alief ISD has available for parents
  • Continue to check the Home Access Center and Parent Schoology to keep up with student’s daily work

Celebrations

Congratulations to Alief Early College High School. Children at Risk named AECHS a #1 Gold Ribbon High School in its 2022 rankings. Children at Risk’s Gold Ribbon School is an accolade for high-performing schools serving mostly at-risk or economically disadvantaged students. The Houston Chronicle interviewed Principal Dr. Brandi Brotherton about the school’s achievements. Read the story here.

The Alief ISD CTE Culinary Arts Program took first place in the school category at the Houston Westchase Rotary Club Soup-er Bowl competition last week. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards funding senior scholarships. Way to go!

Sincerely,
