We LOVE sharing good news! Here are our Alief Points of Pride this week:

  • Gana Hedato (Taylor High School soccer) and Shelia Chucks (Elsik High School basketball) are the Alief ISD Scholar Athletes for February.
  • Kerr High School students Jan Escanan, George Gonzales, Carissa Ledesma and Ika Soemampauw performed in the Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Thousands of students from around the world auditioned for the opportunity to play.
  • Brandon Trinh (Boone) placed first in the District Elementary and Intermediate Spelling Bee. Kamil Syed (Youngblood) placed second, and Julie Vo (Mata) placed third. Trinh will represent Alief ISD at the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee on April 1 at the University of Houston.
  • Hicks Elementary students raised almost $5,000 for the Jump Rope for Heart Association.
  • Taylor High School recently competed in its first Business Professionals of America Regional Leadership Competition and won 16 medals. The winners who are state qualifiers are Lisbette Pulido, Lateefah Adedeji, Kapreshia Acheampong, Joel Cerda, Leonardo Zavala and Minh Nguyen.
  • Alief ISD Business and Community Partnership Coordinator Dee Jones was recognized by the U.S. House of Representatives for being selected as the Houston West Chamber of Commerce Committee Member of the Year. Jones was recognized by U.S. Congressman John Culberson of the Seventh District of Texas. Jones also proudly serves as the Co-chair of the Chamber’s Business and Education Committee.
  • Alief ISD District Technology Integrator Ashley May was recently published in the winter edition of TASA Insight, the professional journal printed by the Texas Association of School Administrators. Her article focuses on the shifting of technology culture in education.
